Car all wrapped up for Winter

Postby Paschal » Sun, 17 Oct 2010 8:45 +0000

Have put the car into storage for the winter.....sad day....but Spring is not too far away....

Quick question, I have suspended the insurance and the tax expired at the end of Sept. Do I need to inform anyone that the car is off the road; Motor tax office, Gardai etc or do I just have to get the Guards to sign the form in the Spring to confirm that the car was off the road. Thanks Paschal

well Paschal what a pity. Just wondering on the suspension of the insurance. Was advised by my insurance company that i shouldn't suspend my insurance when i park my car up for the Winter as it wouldn't be covered if anything happened to it. Tax doesn't run out until end of October, so i'll see then what i will do. Was thinking of keeping taxed and on the road as its due for its NCT in December

Any advise would be appreciated as to the position of suspending insurance

Thanks in advance
Chris

i did the same as Paschal, tax out end of september and suspended the insurance. She's parked in the garage for the winter and i will fit chassis rails before venturing out in the spring.

I got a nice letter from the tax people earlier in the year reminding me that my 5 had not been taxed for some time and urging me to tax it or pay the penalty. I politely replied for them to p*** off as the car was not in use and not parked on a public road.
Anyone may recieve the same letter under the same circumstance.

Not sure if it is covered for fire & theft, check with insurance Company to be sure.

hi chris if the nct is out in december it will have to be taxed and insured to get it done. if you leave the nct till next spring it will be back dated to december any way

I know Johnv thats what i was thinkin myself. Personally i would prefer to keep the insurance on it, just in case anything would happen.

Thanks for input and opinions

cheers
