NCT........ Fail

Postby jack » Mon, 01 Nov 2010 7:23 +0000

Ok just got back with the 5.
I thought Ide got every base covered and was going to sail through... BUT
I didn't count on the fact that my 98 import has air bags fitted, and a MOMO replacement steering wheel. Not fitted with air bag. Hence the fail
My first thought. Has any one got an airbag fitted, steering wheel for sale, or that I could borrow for the day.
I need to take the 5 back within 30 days.
Or are there any other thoughts out there ?
Thanks
Jack :bom: :x

I might be well off the mark here but don't think there is a requirement to have an airbag in any car, however if you have one fitted it must be working. By working the only way they can check is that the light comes on at ignition start and then goes out.
I'm guessing here that your airbag light stays on or flashes due to the fact that the airbag is no longer in the car.
I'm sure you can get something to get the airbag light to go off. or take the bulb out so it doesn't come on in the first place.

Hi Ash
The funny thing is, there is no air bag light at all. Not even when the car starts.
I can only presume that a diagnostic tool was on the car or the tester saw the wires by eye.
Any way, he said it was obvious that air bags should be fitted to the steering wheel and the wheel had to be replaced.
He did say off the record, that I could always remove all trace of wiring and air bags from the car, but that was a bigger job than fitting a new steering wheel !
