Well done John.

The cert always reverts to when the test was due and not when it is actually done i.e. 4 years from first registration and every two years after that. An easy way to remember is if your reg is an even number, then your test will be due in an even year and if your reg is an odd number your test will be due in an odd year. e.g. Car registered in 1994 was tested in 2010 and will be due again in 2012. Car registered in 95 will be due again during 2011 and so on and so on....

Well done John :-)
Tell me did your 5 have an airbag steering wheel or not ?
Mine failed because it had a none standard steering wheel. Even though everything had been disconected or shut off. I now have to re fit and re connect anything thats missing or faulty ?
This issue seems to change depending on where you take it to be tested.
It would be interesting to see if we have an mx5 friendly centre and even where not to take your 5 ?

Jack, I think I said this before, you can borrow my steering wheel/ airbag next time you're going for the nct, just give me plenty of notice

 Thanks john.
Ive got a steering wheel, new wireing, new bulb in dash board, reconnected all unpluged airbags and sensors. Took the 5 back on last day of retest, but dash warning light was flashing twice after ignition was on, so they failed me.
It now needs looking at by, auto electrician.
Then a full test again...
Ive heared people say that their airbag light flashes and they have passed nct.
This is why i think we should let each other know where is best to take your 5 ?

jeez, did it stay flashing or did he fail it because it flashed twice? I would have thought that if the light extinguishes then the system is armed..anybody??

had to find the airbag flashing codes before because I fitted a switch to turn off the passenger side.

http://www.miata.net/garage/airbag_blink.html

if it is flashing twice, then a gap, then repeating this sequence continuously, then this indicates a fault. From the chart, a 2 blink fault seems to refer to a poor earth connection. The other issue might be to reset the warning system by disconnecting the battery and working the brake light to drain the system. as far as I know, this will reset any warning systems if the fault has been cleared.

Not sure this helps.....

my baby due for test on Monday 24th.....question for you guys. I have a hard top with tinted rear window is this ok for test or should I remove. I am getting conflicting answers on this .............some say it doesn't matter as long as side windows are clear. Otherwise I will just remove hard top and go to centre with soft top only. What ye Reckon?

from the nct manual....

If an inspector deems that the windscreen or front side windows are excessively tinted, the level of light transmission
of the window should be tested using light meter capable of measuring the amount of light transmitted through the
windscreen and the side windows along side the driver to an accuracy of ± 3% and suitable for reliable use in an
inspection centre environment.

and

Glass side and rear windows (failure reason)
Glass in front side windows has a visible light
transmission level of less than 65%.

aside from whether it is safety glass and properly marked as such, the above is what they say about tinting. Would appear that only front and front side windows are an issue for tinting.
