According to this site, which looks fairly accurate across various makes and models there has been 1 Mazda Mx5 sold in Ireland in 2011.

http://www.beepbeep.ie/stats/?sYear%5B%5D=2011&sYear%5B%5D=&sRegType=1&sMonth%5B%5D=&sMonth%5B%5D=&sMake%5B%5D=Mazda&sRange%5B%5D=MX&x=22&y=11

Sales have dropped off massively since 2008 when 66 Mx5s where sold. In 2007 there were 122 sales.

Obviously the 3 year long recession is a major factor, but the Mx5 isn't really an expensive high end car. In fact it's damn good value for money, even new. :(

If I was scrapping I know I'd do a lot worse than buy a 5.

Views?

To be honest, I'm happy with the earlier models. I'm not ever likely to be in the demographic that can afford a brand new sports car and if I did win the lotto then I'd probably be heading the Porsche direction ...not necessarily buying new either,... there's some excellent value to be had in second hand boxster land 8)

Well problem is Ireland gets only bog spec 1.8 version.

Mx5 great value, but enthusiast will want a 2.0 version, and I bet tax system is not helping to it. Surely even rx8 is canceled in Ireland.

Hi guys, I am a new member, obviously.
If you think about my handle, you won't be surprised I'm in Australia.

Since you are next to the UK (literally down the road from NI) as enthusiasts do you, as a matter of course, consider NI and UK cars in your car searches, hence the small size of the new car roadster market?

As a European country, you obviously have a lot of choices from across the pond, so what do you do?

Anyone emigrating here would be shocked at the price of European exotic sports cars. Asian cars are reasonably priced but once you get above the company car price bracket, luxury car taxes and a host of other cash cow taxes kick in.

I suppose the one IE MX5 buyer has a unique car!
Spotting that car could become a sport in the forum. :)

Park Motors have a new one currently in stock.
Whats interesting is that its the latest model and Mazda Ireland have decided to only do one model and that is the Roadster Coupe version.
