I cant see how it would be constitutional seeing as road tax if for vehicles being used in a public place, vehicles parked in a shed or garden arent nbeing used. Its typical of this country that they can't do anything properly. All they had to do was copy the UK system of SORNs (statutory off road notifications) where you pay a small sum at the post office and make a declaration, if the vehicle is subsequently found being used it gets crushed. That seems fair enough. What a two bit banana republic this state is.
It will mean old cars not in use wont be kept, potential classics will be scrapped, the end of classic cars in Ireland apart from those already 30 years or older. Dreadful proposal.................as its not law yet. I can see uproar about this

Apparently they will be introducing a SORN type system, but it will cost you €25 for the privliage, and will have to be renewed every 12 months.

Ok. I can live with €25....no doubt it will be increased at every budget.

Lets keep an eye on this, just in case it it gathers legs

That won't be too bad but if it's any more it's going to be a disaster, I currently have 4 cars and probably another 2 or 3 in my name that have been scrapped, I'm sick of this country, I have two jobs and do long hours for very little money (not much more than minimum wage for the hours I work) I was happy cause it funded my interest in cars but all that's happening lately is there's more and more money being taken off us and our wages are staying the same, thinking a lot lately about selling everything and getting out of the country, there has to be better than this :|

This is an absolute f**king disgrace. Another ill thought out proposal/law just like the time Gormley hit the commercial vehicles.
I'd love to be in a position to emmigrate - this country has truly gone down the tubes.
What's the penalty for not paying ?
