White Smoke on starting

Hi guys went mad during the week while I was in UK on business and bought myself a little roadster Jap import 1990 red with 130km on the clock she not perfect but after all she is almost 19years old. Very impulsive buy have to say love the car but hope I was not hasty. I’m a little worried as when I started it over the weekend after a couple of days being idle there was a lot of white smoke which seemed to clear after about 4min or so. I was just wondering if this is normal or have I anything to be concerned about. Please put my mind at rest as this is all new to me.

"At this time of year a lot of MX5's are smokey on startup, this is just the S/S exhaust and old cat, so long as the smoke is light and whispy it shouldn't be a problem, blue smoke indicate is oil, thick white smoke is water, black smoke is soot and petrol"

Cheers Ash, thanks for the reply. It’s not using oil or water so hopefully all is well. Will post some pictures ASAP. Had her out for a run on Saturday and did meet a red 97 reg in loughrea and a white MK1 in Craughwell. It’s tucked away in the garage and getting treated to a full service later in the week when I have time. have to sort out the insurance so will look into that during the week.
