Postby gunners5 » Wed, 30 Apr 2008 8:35 +0000

Hi guys.Just going to get the car aligned tomorrow after fitting new AGXs and Eibach springs can anyone recommend me a good all round set up?the place that is doing it does not have a drive on lift but one that goes under the sills does this matter?how much should i expect to pay?sorry for all the stupid questions.

Last time i had alignment done i think it was €80 but not sure.
I don't know about the lift thing to be honest. when they did mine the car sits on plates on the drive on ramp and they hang laser level bars on the wheels that are connected to the pc. When they adjust set up the tyre/wheel can move on the plate.
Maybe there is another way of doing things. not 100% sure.
As for the set up, complicated issue that i don't really know about either, std set up is pretty good as far as i know which they should have a record of on the pc.
Hope that helps a little bit.

45e at my local place, wheels are put on plates with laser attached to the hubs of the car. These measure up against a setup on the wall.

Have tried the Lanny settings + others, always went back to the stock settings tho', better all round.

Hi guys got the alignment done today it cost 60 euro.hard to tell the difference yet as everything is still settling in.It seems to me he is after dialling in alot of negative camber at the back but i will get it done again in a few weeks after the car settles in.The only problem was getting it on the lift the car is so low with these shite Eibach springs there really bad way to low.lower the car way more than 30mm if you ask me i feel like going back to stock im that pissed off.

Yeah 100% agree with you about the eibachs mate, Really didn't like mine, have got a set of fm springs to go on now. Hopefully these and the bilsteins will finally sort me out.

On a smooth surfaced road they seem to do the business but any little bump and you are all over the place i also hate the look of the car all squashed down on the back i would love to get the same ride height level as the Blackbullet looks spot on to me but i should have listened to Phil Dixon of Performance5 he said they were way to soft for the amount they lower the car.Where did you get the FMsprings Ash have you fitted them?

Got em from Phil at p5 but he is no longer selling em. You could try the fm site, got a qoute for shipping not long ago from them direct and if you don't get hit for tax then it worked out cheap (ish)
Not got them fitted yet but hopefully by the ned of next week i will have me on.
This is how it sits at the moment (well its got different wheels on now)

Hey Ash, don't forget your mechanic really botched up the install 200% and blew your shocks on day one. Sorry but I dont think you can make that comment with the hardware that was put in your car from that guy mate. I would have shot him myself.

The rear of the car should NOT be sitting lower than the front and it should NOT be bottoming out ANYWHERE.

I have that same setup and from whats said above there seems to be something 'wrong', the car should not be all over the place with a few bumps. A bit hard yes but NOT 'skipping' or anything like that.

Are they 8 way or 4 way adjustable shocks ?
Put setting 3 on the front and 2 on the back if their 8 ways.
Perhaps whoever fitted them may have made the same mistake as Ashs' mechanic and reversed the springs front and back......maybe that's why the ass of the car is hanging low at the back ?
You may be about to blow some shocks

No i don't think he got the shocks back to front( i dont think you can as they just wouldn't fit)
Also there are different types of eibachs available so maybe that too.
I just don't know mate, the shock shows no sign of being blown no leaking or anything.
It will be interesting to see how it rodes/looks with the new set up on.

Aren't the AGXs gas/air shocks ?
Could have damaged an inner seal.

When ifitted the springs i put the short ones on the front long ones on the back i also seated them in the same place on both sides with all the springs pointing backwards. On the back the drivers side is about 10 to 15mm lower than on the passenger side. The car flew through its NCT today so there cant be any thing wrong with the shocks.I am going to replace the springs with new OEM springs i have as spares until i find out what the problem is.I have read on the mx5nutz forum of people having problems with these springs such as sagging.I have 8way agxs and have to set it on 4 at the back to stop it bouncing and have it set om 3 at the front. It couldnt be shock mounts or maybe the bushings all i know is it is very disapointing after all my hard work and NCT pass result.

Sorry to hear about the troubles dude, like i said i was disappointed in the eibachs and kyb set up, Fergus i don't know how your setup is so firm dude. maybe its the bushes. there are also a good few people in the uk who don't rate the eibachs. Like i said there are 2 (at least) types. Gunner do you know what type yours are, where did you get them.
Ash
p.s.The only way that it will go if you get the springs mixed up is the nose sitting lower than the arse so i doubt thats his problem.

It's not just my setup, I installed KYBs on the front of Seans' car and it's the exact same as mine
Where's yee get the shocks from ?
Both myself and Sean got them from Mx5Parts.
There are two types, adjustable and non-adjustable.
