there's often second hand ones for sale here and on nutz, keep an eye out for one Tom. They do make a nice job of the car when on.

Took gauge cluster out, removed glass + ebay overlay thing that had been rattling for the last 4 months (grrrr), much better.. next, centre console thingy, it's part of my "staying off the cigs" therapy (GRRRR)... trying to keep busy fiddlin' with something ("easy down the back..")...

Stripped back rubbers on passenger door, found a few rust spots  on Quarter panel surround. Stripped out window runners, cleaned and re-greased, just wiped out any dirt from rubber guide for window at quarter panel.

Should I treat the rubber in the glass guide with a silicon spray ??How best to treat those feckin' rust spots?? Considering treating the rust by a quick rub down, applying a primer coat and then a matt black spray...suggestions please if I should be doing it any other way :?
Isn't there some stuff you can treat rust with before painting?

Also, a 2 inch split on the rubber base at the top of quarter panel, which probably explains the rust. Was gonna superglue it back together, will that work??

Just did the drivers side.....quite a bit of tin worm again on quarter panel surround. Think I may have to replace as opposed to repair .
The search begins

Got some new wheels at the weekend, which i put on yesterday. Halfords something, but they suit the car imho. Need to lower it now.

then gave the car a damn good polish using meguirs 3 step system, which removed some of the little scratches, then went for a wee spin with the roof down.

cheers guys!

Have a strut brace to put on it when i get home, (courtesy of tuning evolution, 6 days shipping and 39 quid) so should get some pics of that aswell.

Can you fit lowering springs with normal shocks, or are there any problems?

Mechanic mate doing work on car this week.
Today he freed up rear left caliper, fitted new pads front and rear, fitted and adjusted new handbrake cables, timing belt, water pump, replaced coolant, fitted two track rod ends, removed steering column to get at the mountings for accelerator which was cracked..he welded that back together.
as soon as a new set of rear wishbone bushings arrives he'll fit them also..nearly ready for nct now

Oh yes, when we inspected underneath, the rear cross-member didn't look too good with a fair bit of corrosion, so he cleaned it off and undercoated it, followed by 2 coats of a paint designed for use on underbody.

How I wish I had the time, knowledge and equipment to do these jobs but sometimes you just have to admit that it's best to let someone in the know get on with it!!!

My target is to have it ready for the Wicklow run next Saturday, but as the bushings are being bought on e-bay I may not het them in time..fingers crossed that I do

dissassembled, cleaned and reassembled all the calipers, flushed the brake fluid and fixed the exhaust.

That was a good weekend.
