If memory serves me right, Ollie was the one applying the pressure to his washerjet with a flat bladed screwdriver at the moment of disintegration, I did advise against this at the time. However, I did actually break my own one off while washing my car earlier that morning , so technically I broke my own one by accident as opposed to pulling it off intentionally.... :? :? :?

Removed & sprayed vent-ball surrounds (inspired by Fergus... but I didn't do it in the living room!). Happy enough with result & avoided paying MX5parts 5-million euro for same (rattle can silver eu5). Curious as to whether mx5-parts supplied rings are molded pieces (replacements) or just stick-ons (PJ - ?).
Shouted a lot at kids putting paw-marks on my polish/wax job :)

Hi Mike, the vents surrounds was a sticky on job, but the vent balls are plastic chrome. I'll post up some pics next week.
It looks particularly well in the centre as I have the centre console the same colour as the car. Also complements the chrome surround on the hazard lights and pop up lights and the chrome surrounding my gear gator.

Collected a set of clocks from DHL depo today as they 'couldn't find my house' since last week.

Brought the box home and opened it to find.....

Muppets - I would advise to NEVER use DHL ! :pale:

At least the heater panel wasn't smashed up. I guess I'll be using my own cluster for parts now......
The cluster was wrapped very very well and the box had lots of extra padding in it, I guess some fat DHL guy just sat on it or something.

Ah FFS, can they do anything in terms of insurance???
That's disgraceful but given that they are currently in the process of laying off a lot of their staff its not surprising.Disgruntled courier company employees equals "carelessness" with fragile packages I presume.

Brought the car to my mechanic to get to the bottom of the question as to why the car failed the nct on handbrake balance. He stripped out the caliper and has concluded that the handbrake adjustment mechanism is knackered, you can hear it slipping against the piston mechanism when turning the adjuster. The car had no braking issues other than the handbrake imbalance. Options? New caliper, or take one with other issues and make a complete unit from two. See "wanted " thread.

This will fix your problem.. it takes 2 mins to fit a new one.

http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/product_info.php/products_id/309

Put both rear wheels in the air and readjust pads against the disks using the adjuster.. that should do it (Gus had the same issue recently and passed on the 2nd go, granted one side was adjusted twice.. but the less said about that the better ;-) )

Thanks Steve, didn't realise they can pop out without warning. How do you remove one that's in situ?

The adjuster is hidden under a 12mm bolt on the back of the caliper.
Remove the bolt, stick an allen key into the top of the adjuster and try pulling upwards and sideways at the same time to sort of slide/fish the adjuster upwards..
When its out you'll see the problem, the bottom 2mm of the adjuster is usually stripped off on bad ones.
