Hardwired in a power cable for my Garmin GPS today - nice neat jobbie, no trailing cables now cluttering up the dash!

So, this is the power cable bought from ebay for €2.05 :alien:

Removed the panel under the steering colum, and poped put the ciggie lighter.

totally pulled out with the help of a long nose pliers....
Image

I wanted to set the power cable up into the drivers side corner of the windscreen for a neat install, so I popped the cover on the side of the dash @ the drivers door, the feed an old power flex in to aid threading the new power cable out - not much access in there I can tell you :|

Got it thru'

Plugged in the unit to the ciggie lighter socket...but I could'nt directly wire the sat nav to 12V source, its got to be 5V or I'd have blown my GPS to bitz hence the need to plug in the unit.
Image

Taped it up to isolate it and then cable tied it up away in behind the dash -

All in place, nice and neat.........

All back together, now just waiting for my starter button that I ordered off ebay to take pride and place in the ciggie lighter hole.

Nice cheap mod, worth doing.

Nice job Ollie, just be aware that the adaptor more than likely has a built-in fuse, so if that blows you're gonna have to take it all out again..hopefully it wont blow too soon. If you could fit an on/off switch on the cable going to the cig lighter it might help the fuse last a bit longer!!!

I decided to clean my seats and what was under them, so out came my socket set and a bottle of leather care product and the vacume cleaner! Results were quite good! 8)

Tackled a couple of jobs yesterday evening, one of the side lights had blown, so swapped in a fresh one, tightened up the foglight bracket while I had the Philips out too.

One of the Y connector for the passenger side screen washers had cracked, dumping water all over the scuttle very time I tried to clean the screen, so I used an inch of straw from the inside of an old biro and some poly cement to MacGyver it back together.

My iPod shuffle also arrived, so I had to stuff the only aux cable I had under the console to tidy it up a bit. It's and epic bit of kit though, 4GB yet smaller than a pencil sharpener!

Fitted a Mazdaspeed Rollbar and a K&N induction kit. Cold air feed shite tho as it wont clear all the P/S and aircon pipework. Sound good and feels stiffer.

crackin' day in west donegal today. had to take the 5 out of the garage to get at the mower. dropped the top and left it sunbathin' as i cut the grass. after cleaning the mower i went for a quick blast. donegal harvest rally here on saturday so i had a quick run through one stage and about 75% of another. nothin' nicer on a day like this. hoovered her out when i got home and put her back to bed. forecast bad for sat so i'll leave her there, anyway too many numpties about weekends like this. :D
