Started on the job to replace the saggy roof-lining on my hardtop. This is the OEM Mazda roof made by TWR for them in the UK, so it had the really nice black, felt lining. 14 years later and it's a saggy mess.

So, here it is with the lining removed and as much of the old glue removed as possible:

And with some soundproofing stuck on (Dynamat Extreme)

Next, I have to let that sit for a while, then have another go with the roller to pop any air pockets. Then the new lining can be glued on.

Just had a 'doh' moment when I went to lift it off the carpet.

It's no longer a one-man job for fitting it on/off the car :-/

I had a productive day!

Lowered it way to much
5mm spacers all round,
Made up rear adjustable upper wishbones(mmmmmmmm camber)
Fitted side mount number plate holder,
Fitted oil pressure and temp gauge's
Gave it a clean!

seeing as i couldn't make it to ivans, i decided to have my own tech day. fitted clear side repeaters, new sony stereo, new speakers in headrests and one of those outside/inside temperature guages. old speakers were kaput, but great sound now. fitted temp guage between gearstick and cubby box below stereo. fed cable behind console and out, then down along wing and out under headlight with sensor just above tow eye. then gave her a good clean out.

Where abouts did you feed the cable through the bulkhead?

didn't, fed it out to side of dash behind fuse-box and out at door jam up under back edge of wing and down alonglip on wing where it bolts on under bonnet. hard to get in from bulkhead without an extra pair of hands because of sound deadening material etc. working all day tomorrow, will post pics as soon as possible.

Well, not the MX5 but more the JX5 - small oil leak from one of the camcovers resulted in a burning smell after a run where the car was pushed hard. Was hoping it was just the camcover gasket and not something more expensive.

Off came the cam cover, on went the new gasket, and bish-bash-bosh no more smell.

air trunking and some covers removed, showing the coil-on-plug things

COPs removed leaving some gubbins on the driveway

camcover removed, need to scrape off the old gasket parts. WD40 is great for removing crap like that. Evidence of burned oil on the lowr left, right above the exhaust manifold. Result !

one of the chain tensioners. Little bit of wear on it, so I am going to have them changed out for uprated items (aluminium instead of plastic). Later.

old gasket - bit worn, so hopefully the cause of the oil-leak

new gasket on, and everything back together and pretty.

Frank, did it take long in the end?

Washed the post-snow road muck off the car(s), had bought some "simple green" to try, its as good as its rep!

Took about 15 minutes to get the right tools together (my method of mixing all the imperial and all the metric sockets into one plastic bag isn't quite sound).

Another 15 minutes to dissasemble and take pics.

5 mins to clean and stick the gasket + silicon onto the cover

Another 10 mins to reassemble.

45 minutes + or -

Wouldn't have been able to do it at the tech day without a 1/4" ratchet and sockets as a couple of the bolts were hard to get to. Only did the one camcover as the other isn't leaking.

Pascal, there is a small hole in the fire wall just below the servo, it has a rubber grommet in it. the hole comes out above the accelerator pedal. Big enough to take 3mm vacuum tube or some wiring.

Easy to get the wiring through if you make up a long hook from some steel wire, push it through the hole tie the wire to it and pull it back through.

For someone who didn't know about posting Porsche you managed to get a stripped down engine on and I didn't see any complaints  So I suppose Frank's Jag engine is exempt
