I've been at the phoenix races a few times. I would steer well clear of it It's free in so there are a lot of scumbags. Won't be much left of your car after. Also it's in a very very bumpy field can cause damage to the bottom of your car. Better off sticking to the Terenure show the jag club organise. Much better show.http://www.mx5ireland.com/gallery/icvs1405.htm ahhh those were the days...

That looks like a smashing day out!, What year was that, Pats, yellow hoses are now sitting in a bag in my shed..... . I was at the phoenix park races years ago as a young fellow, but I just thought it would be good coverage for the club to mark the 20th anniversary with a lap or 2 of honour....Just a thought! Do ye go to the terenure show every year!

If it turns out that we dont do the phoenix park thing, what say we contact the leinster motor club and try to piggy-back one of their mondello weekends to mark the 20th anniversary? Lets use it as an excuse to get together and get to know each other better.. I would bet that there a lot of members who have never been on a run who would be attracted by the prospect of a lap or two of a racing circuit, even if not at racing speeds!
BTW, I think that the kit car club of ireland got to do their thing at the park last year, if not the year before.

The "Mondello" thang sounds good - and I'm sure we could make an effort to mark the 20th anniversary. Are there any links (as in contacts) with the Leinster motor club? I'm sure something like this, if enough numbers are involved, (and given the fact there are so many registered users there is the potential for a good showing),might even make a slot on RPM...

I thought the same, till someone on here said otherwise, but apparently Its 1988, although it wasn't launched till 1989....... "In August 1988 the car was presented to a select group of car magazine editors at the Mazda test track in Miyoshi. They loved the car, but were sworn to secrecy. The first spy pictures appeared in 'Autoweek' in November 1988 and in June 1989 Mazda held a press conference to announce the launch of their new light-weight sports car. Since then the MX5, has collected awards, rave reviews and a place on the short list for car of the century. The rest, as they say, is History......"http://www.mx5club.org.nz/info/mx5_history/

If the first one was sold in 1988 then I'll be looking for my money back on my '99 10AE

I always thought 1989 was the official "rest of the world" release - and in that case perhaps it would be worth waiting until next year to do something. (It gives us a year to prepare!!). That said, I read somewhere (years ago) about limited initial production in 1988 - and found this on Art's web site: A simple and non complicated design that would provide trouble free motoring and keep maintenance costs to a minimum. And yet a design with all the modern features of power steering, electric windows and fuel injection. For the Japanese Market the car was introduced as the Eunos Roadster. For Europe it was called the Mazda MX5 and in the USA the Miata. Production was as follows: Year Roadster MX5 Miata 1988 12 0 0 1989 45,266 9,307 34,021 1990 95,640 25,226 67,400 1991 63,434 22,594 40,729 1992 52,712 18,657 34,096 1993 44,743 16,789 27,909 1994 39,623 10,830 29,079 1995 31,886 7,178 27,648 1996 33,610 4,413 29,231 http://www.webcars.net/roadster.htm So those with a Eunos Roadster were ahead of the game - and technically speaking the 1999 AE MX5 is what it says on the tin. I wonder what other oc groups are doing - anyone heard/read anything? mrges

 Hmmmmmmm
Seems (according to Wikipedia) that the 12 Eunos Roadsters from 1988 were "preproduction cars" - so I guess we're back to 1989 as the "official" year of release!

The 250,000th MX-5 rolled out of the factory on November 9, 1992; the 500,000th, in February 8, 1999; the 750,000th, in March 2004; and the 800,000 in January 2007.
