Window Regulators For Japanese Roadster

I need a window regulator for each door. Will parts for an Irish MX5 do?

I have a mk2 "Mazda 1.8i Roadster Coupe" according to Mazda garage invoice. They say it will cost €350 for the parts, alone. I'm hoping to find them cheaper elsewhere.

Also, is 'window regulator' and 'window winder mechanism' the same thing?

What year is yours? Mk1 or Mk 2. Electric or manual?

Complete mechanism (electric but does not include motor) on MX5 Parts for £70....

fiddly but not impossible to repair and plenty of guides, pics, "how to's" available online.

I have a mk2 with electric windows. "99" on the registration plate.

Can I infer from your reply that 'window regulator' and 'window winder mechanism' is same thing? If so, then mx5parts.co.uk have been out of stock for at least 6 weeks at this stage.

I don't need the motor. Mazda garage didn't mention repair being an option.

i have 2 good used electric window assemblies from a jap import mk2 here

ars the regulators broken or are your windows just slow. if they are slow it's only a matter of cleaning the channels and applying lubrication. i cleaned mine and applied a white grease that is used in washing machines and the like, doesn't stain.

Mine is a 99 also. 1.6

Windows were slow. Did the cleaning and lubing with silicone and white grease.

If it were mine, I would check in the following order:

Are motors working? Fuse? Switch? (strange that both are gone?)
Cables broken?
The mechanism itself (i.e. channels, arms, mounts for glass etc.) is unlikely to be completely broken. A quick look by taking the door card off would tell a lot.

Hard to diagnose without seeing but these might be worth looking at. Over 300 for parts sounds over the top without you really being told whats wrong?

Barney .. my windows are starting to slow up and by the sounds of this I'll have to get out the elbow grease again. Question tho, how do I access the channels? Do I need to take of the door panel and plastic "gunk" covered waterproof bit? If so I might need a bit of help and will put it off until next month when I'll have an expert (ie YOU) on hand in case I screw up. Also where does one get "white grease"?

I have some of that white grease - bought off ebay - will look up the name - and get back to you - neeed to put it in the doorframe/glass channels and also on cable as it goes into/out of motor - unless you wanna take the motor apart

i just wound down the windows and used a cloth doubled over the head of a blunt screwdriver and soaked in hot water and fairy liquid. inserted the cloth into the channel and ran it up and down and repeated till cloth was fairly clean. i then dried the channel and greased.

I might give Barney's idea a go first. The thoughts of going in behind that black gunk again .. *shivers*

I know I know, it has to be done

Anyone any tips on getting that plastic off easily?

I used some of this silicone spray from Halfords too. I cleaned out those rubber channels and sprayed them with a good shot of this stuff. A definite improvement in window speed...not super fast but better.

The name of that stuff that some of us bought before was Shin Etsu silicone grease G-30M (for Hondas) from www.chilternconnections.co.uk

Appears to work on my windows anyhow - have'nt had a problem since using it - put it on a couple of times a year.

can you confirm you didn't remove the paneling etc just did the Barney method?
