Well done..btw, what varnish did you use on the steering wheel? Is it working to your satisfaction? The steering wheel on my mx5 needs re-doing .

Thanks, really glad I passed.
I used marine varnish, worked great, took a week or two to fully cure but now it's rock hard and feels much better then it had. The flaking was really annoying, I kept peeling it and then there would be another flake. Well worth the effort. The trick was to get a reel sharp knife and scrape holding the blade at a right angle to the surface.

Is marine varnish just a clear or did you opt for a coloured? Also. in doing this job do you lose the black circle on the steering wheel when you strip off the old varnish??

Clear. Black circle is there. If you would like I can stop by and show you how I did it and lend you my knife, it's perfect for the job.
The brake handle came out lighter than the wheel but I like it.

Drove the mk1 to Kirkistown yesterday , track day for Porsche club, very interesting circuit. Didn't take the mx5 out but got a few laps in with Ivan(Porsche Boxster), Bren ( Mercedes SLK) and Dave (Porsche Carrera ). There was a Porsche GT3RS there too..what an animal!!!!! I wouldn't have minded getting out in that, but the owner wasn't offering

Maybe next time 8)

pics/vids later

Very nice..Looks like Steves.

What did I do today..Passed NCT !!!! 8) 8)

But, as I only purchased the car in the last few weeks, and the NCT ran out last January, and we now have to NCT the car every year, this NCT is only good for 6 MONTHS

I defy anyone to prove to me that this whole NCT thing is not just a money making racket for someone :x :x :x

Rant over for now.
