HT Leads

Postby Midlifecrisis » Fri, 04 Apr 2008 12:44 +0000

Hi - wondering if ye could assist re connection of HT lead. I have a bit of a misfire in my road-going MX, so had a look at the leads. They are connected in diff order to my other (garaged) MX and also the Veloce.co.uk site shows yet another connection order. The manual I have is useless in this regard.

From coil, numbering left to right 1-4, and plugs # 1-4 from closest to coil to front,
the veloce website (picture) shows 1-1, 2-4, 3-3, 4-2.
Whereas my garaged MX (runs fine) has 1-2, 2-3, 3-4, 4-1
I've tried both these but (new) misfire remains - 1991 1.6

Anyone got the definitive on this

The cylinders fire in pairs, so cylinder 1 and 4 fire together as do 2 and 3, so these wires can be reversed.
Going from left to right on the coil while looking in on the engine from the front of the car, try 4-1-2-3 (1-4-2-3, 1-4-3-2 & 4-1-3-2 can also be used).

If you look along the back edge of the coil it might be stamped with some numbers (some have it some don't).

Also, re misfire, re-gap your spark plugs (1mm) first, if its not cured, swop out your ignition leads (worth doing anyway if you don't know how old they are).

Hope this helps,
Steve
