Re: What did you do to your MX5 today ?Fitted 4 new tyres to 5 on Friday :
![]() Passed the NCT yesterday morning, then 5 minutes later, the steering goes heavy, and the "Charge" and "Heat" lights come on. ![]() That's the PAS/Aircon (right) and Alternator/Waterpump (left) belts. Replacements ordered, thinking of ditching the AC altogether…
Re: What did you do to your MX5 today ?Yeah, you wouldn't be the first to get rid of the aircon. Not really needed in Ireland, plus it's extra weight to be carrying. There is some bit of work to be done if you're gonna ditch it though.

Re: What did you do to your MX5 today ?Replaced the accelerator cable, the pedal is nice and light again, world of difference.
Re: What did you do to your MX5 today ?Changed the plugs and leads, aswell as finishing off fitting the rollbar
What did you do to your MX5 today ?Got a new cloth (mohair?) roof fitted by Jack Smiths car trimmers in Swansea. Raymond Smith is the guy, great man for the chat. £260. Watching him do it I was glad I didn't attempt DIY, there seemed to be quite a few tricks of the trade employed. Arrived 14:30 and got away at 18:30... but we were chatting. He is accommodating if he knows you are coming on the ferry etc. Decent guy to deal with. I was surprised to see a late BMW 3 series turning up for full leather seats, £950.
Re: What did you do to your MX5 today ?Yeah, the Swansea guys are salt of the earth. My mohair hood is looking good still, 5 years later.
It's a small world after all. It's a small, small world
Re: What did you do to your MX5 today ?Driving from Belfast to Dub last night, my car started running hot. I had the LINK keypad plugged in so saw the temp rise from its normal 94 degrees to a max of 112 degrees. What's alarming is that the needle on the dash temp gauge barely moved !! By the time I would have noticed it move, the engine would have fried.
Turns out the two fans on the rad were not operating. Trying the TFA (test fan) link in the diagnostics connector caused the fan relay to click but with still no 12V at the fan wiring. I removed the relay, saw that it was a bit burned, and ended up just bridging its connections in the fusebox with some wire temporarily. Fans started right up. So, order placed for a new fan relay. It's a small world after all. It's a small, small world
