What did you do to your MX5 today ?

Postby sifpilsen » Mon, 19 Mar 2012 10:25 +0000

Got some huge uniroyal rainsports (or was it expert), 195/65/14. Filling out the wheelarches. Nice ride comfort though.

Sprayed up my inlet manifold, air valve to match my rocker cover :

in the car :

Installed an inlet manifold thermal insulating gasket when I was putting the manifold back on, supposed to limit heat transfer from the head to the mainfold

Did the timing belt aswell, used a cam locking tool I got from Flyin Miata and a crank locking tool from Rennenmetal, made the job very striaghtforward for a novice diy mechanic!

those fm cam ninja tools are less than useful tbh, especially if you have to replace cam seals etc, i got one from fm last month along with a crank locking tool and a crank seal installer.

The crank locking tool is worth its weight in gold.

What did you do with the fuel line?
I still need to sort that, was thinking of useing the original brackets and some self tappers into the rails?

The stainless steel is quite tough and it may be difficult to get a self tapping screw to work well. It may be easier to drill and tap the hole.

Thanks again for sorting this great purchase Steve. BTW, I bonded them in place with Tiger Seal which I'm hoping will add extra strength..

luxury of having a MIG Welder. Roughly marked the rails in line with the origional bracket mounts. Drilled a clearance hole and tack welded a captive nut behind the rail. All mounted as origionally intended.
