leamyj wrote:Put the car in for NCT..Passed EVERYTHING with flying colours EXCEPT a visual on the underside..they say that the door sills on nearside are suffering from primary structural corrosion.FFS, how did I not notice that one, even though we had it up on a ramp prior to purchase? , I have been told that the NCT has gotten more difficult than ever to pass and they are only looking for the slightest excuse to have you come back and throw more money at them. Anyhow, will have to get it looked at asap. Too wet right now to be crawling under a car in this weather..

update:

Not gonna make the retest deadline, so will end up having the car retested fully at a later stage. Local bodyshop guy is gonna tackle the job and fabricate a piece of metal about 4 inches by 1 inch and weld it in etc, we'll present it to the nct with primer coat only as he says that they don't want these issues to be dealt with by using fibreglass and fillers, they prefer to see metal being replaced with metal..i do have spare bodywork from which I could cut a bigger piece , but the bodyshop guy says that's not gonna be necessary..further update later .

John.

4x1? Cool, could have been much worse (as you know :-) ). I'm in the same boat at the moment, but need to have the full sill and rear wing replaced (week after next with luck).

Today... fitted the fan washer jets from Ford, fitted new rear light gaskets, put the exhaust heat shield back on after a bit of high temp painting and cleared out the boot (it was full of parts/rags/jump leads/etc).

can't remember the last time it was this empty

Just fitted a 10AE strut brace courtesy of Robert Maguire.

Seems to flex less now.

Got my timing belt and water pump done by autocheck. Really missed the car over the last since the power steering belt broke. Picked up a stainless grille too!

Removed the front brakes, then installed 1.8 calipers, carriers, discs and Mintex pads. My god, the difference...

Windscreen out

Glad I didn't leave it any longer! The only indicator that there was an issue was the bubbling on that side, no bubbling on passenger side.

Poked at the bubbling in the rear arch

Bought a new rear wing panel and full outer sill from Moss, car now in for repair/welding + paint (yay).

AH Steve I wanted to burst that rust bubble !!!
Great to hear that's she's on her way for some panels and paint ,you were good to spot the rust in the windscreen pillers , I assume it will involve new metal being welded in ?
Best of luck with it, give me a shout if I can do anything for you. I might be able to find some goggles if you still intend to drive it to the paint workshop !

yep, new metal going in, won't need too much though, most of that is just surface rust.

some progress on the wing + sill :

Passed its NCT on its second attempt. Failed the first time for having the standard rear red side reflectors . And then I got rid of the bose amps and head unit. New speakers coming on Monday. 8)
