   thread hijackJohn C,
I am so sorry for hijacking your important news about getting your nct. Really sorry. It is not the time or place to boast about my holidays......it is only 87 days off after all. Sorry again, me.
Getting away from 9.5 wk bbq's & back on-track (jealousy) .... Am I tempting fate by scheduling my NCT for Friday 13th - tis a done deal anyway so here we go.
In relation to taping up of side reflectors - can I ask why - are these a known NCT no-no
AFAIK the orange ones are fine it's the red ones on the rear that are an issue.
Red = back of the car, not side Something like that. Can anyone tell me what exactly you need the NCT for thses days. You din't need it for tax or insurance. Obviously if you are going to sell the car you would need to get it done but on a day to day basis, what do you need it for. I have had a Garda tell ehm...my friend he could take the car but even he didn't look convinced. Far be it from me to encourage people to work outside the regulations but I'm just not sure what the legal requirements are, if any. Ivan, Ashley. Let's try and keep this one clean
The National Car Testing Service Ltd. (NCTS), a member of the SGS Group, is responsible for the implementation and operation of the car testing service in Ireland. The National Car Test (NCT) is being conducted at 43 purpose built NCT Centres nationwide.
The NCT was introduced on 4th January 2000 complying with the EU Directive, which makes car testing compulsory in EU member states. The Directive is aimed primarily at improving road safety and enhancing environmental protection. NCTS is operating this service on behalf of the Government and is committed to providing the highest standards of customer service. so basically you need it cause europe says so, and it leads to a improving road safety and enhancing environmental protection. So there. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3099765 "When I make a key the on position and push the button, an engine works"

 what he said
Alright, I understand what the point of it is. I just don't know what the legal ramifications of not having a valid NCT Certificate in your window.
I'm sure my friend will eventually find out. Or not.

 i think it's a 1,500 euro fine
 Re: thread hijack
A bank holiday weekend off is hard for me to handle, no way would i handle 87days off. I feel sorry for you.

I heard a rumour (sounds like a cue for a song) that without a valid NCT, you wont get a tax disc and that your insurance is effectively invalid. I guess the tax disc is for the future law changes but does anyone know about the insurance angle? Again this is only rumour from "bloke down pub"

Nah went in Vrt'ed the car, got tax disc, and waited for nct. As for insurance that would be up to your insurance company But not with mine.......think about it...how do you get the car to the NCT without insurance?...suppose the back of a truck.... but then how do you get the truck NCT'd (DOE). You would have to build the truck at the DOE centre, then go off and get the car and bring it to the NCT..... Just seems daft to me......
I'd imagine if you were involved in an accident and they discovered something like brake failure due to dodgy brake lines or something AND that you never had it NCT'd then I'd say they wouldn't pay out...........

That's it..if an insurance company can find any way of not paying out, they will invoke it... that's their job!! That said, there are a lot less death traps on the road nowadays than, say 10 years ago. My problem at the moment is trying to get an nct appointment, they're booked up in the Naas one for the next 7 weeks... no vacancies John
