Car won't start!

Postby rockdrummer4 » Sun, 03 Aug 2014 8:32 +0000

Hi lads, would appreciate some help..

07 mx5 mk3, electric roof model..

Car broke down.. Smoke coming from bonnet on passenger side
When turn key, all electric work, but engine won't start!

Any ideas?

The only thing I had different was a Bluetooth odb plugged in..
Would this do anything?

Was strong smell of burning plastic.. So thinking cable going to
Starter motor of starter motor itself!!

Plugs were changed 5 days previous! The check engine light came on, indicated
Coil 3 was gone but garage said it was plugs, they swapped coil2 and 3 but prob
Stayed with coil 3 so this indicated plugs!!

Check where the wiring for where it's melted, that's going to point you in the right direction at least. Very hard to say other than that. Can't see the obd dongle having any effect really.

Yeah I dont see how aswell, just it's so strange this happened.
The only thing that was different.
The radio blipped a few minutes before all the smoke! As
If something blew..

Hope it's a small enough thing!

Was on my way to Killarney for the weekend...
Down here in a rental now, really miss the car, weather is great
Here.... So pissed off :(

Have you called Autocheck, don't know if he has a mk3 or not.

Alternatively ebay has a few like this :

Thanks Steve, I saw a few on ebay already but time is of the essence. This is my daily runner and need it for work.

Another garage is doing it for 475, plus 120 to get towed there !

Both are Mazda dealers, dont know how one can do it for 827 and the other for 475 !
Anyway, the guy doing it for 475 I have been using for years, very good and honest !

Thanks

Ah yes as most electrical parts on nearly all brands of cars are manufactured by companies such as ,Mitsubishi,Denso,Bosch,Hella etc and not by manufacturers themselves .The give contracts to outside companies to supply specific parts to certain standards etc.No problem with your parts for sure
