had a busy morning today, started by replacing the tie rods and ends, and that turned into also removing the aircon system from the car. wasnt complicated just took a bit of time. frees up a nice bit of space in the engine bay and i reckon it will allow air to flow into the bay a little more freely. i also have ebc discs and pads along with braided lines waiting to be fitted, but for now i think ill enjoy the good weather first.

:D
Funny how one job often leads to another!

Talking of aircon, mine isn't working...... I'm guessing it's a "re-gas" job (well, I'm hoping it's only a "re-gas" job!). Has anyone had this done? If so, can you recall where (and approx. cost)? Thanks.

there are a good few places around the country that can do this for you, i see you are in the midlands, so with a quick google i found www.mullingarautoelectrics.com they dont have a price listed but it is normally around the 50/60 euro mark. another option is that most motor factors sell aircon refill kits for a diy job

Drove it on , in the Jody Byrne Memorial run at weekend. Got 125mph on motorway .Afraid to go any faster....My mate has mk2 RS2000 and had to back off after around 100mph. Great acceleration also as we have few head to heads going down the ramps at one of the Carlow exits. I begin to get worreid about things falling off at around 120mph.....Let alone the Gardai spotting me.Locked up I would be. Cant afford that.Pedal to the metal through all 6 gears coming down on to the motorway, a few times, for approx 2km than slow dowwwwnnnnnn to cruising 80mph.

Jeez Brian, that,s brillo job for rattle cans.Never seen them work out so well.I think the quality of the mixed aerosols are much better than off the shelf ones.Vinny Byrne paint suppliers does some here in Dublin and they are excellent also apparently

Put back in the stock mk2.5 seats.. Argh! They are awful compared to the RX8 Seats. The RX8 Seats are so much more comfortable, plus they are are more central to the pedals which was much more practical for driving. Putting it through the NCT on Monday and then alas I'll be putting it up for sale. I will be sorry to see her go as I love this car.. but needs must and the funds from the sale will fund the finish of the project car.

Thanks for that gents .
The method is quite simple .......preparation
First sand down the panel really well to get rid of all marks / scratches , any dings tapped out and filled . This could take a few passes .
I them primed the entire panel with a number of coats, light and often is the way to go . Wet sand this with 800 wet and dry .
Wash down entire panel .
Colour is next and the same really light coats and a good few passes until you are happy with the coverage , for me one can Just did the quarter , for larger panels I suggest you will need more or a spray gun . For me no sanding here as I didn't have anymore paint !
Let it dry then spray on the clear . I used u pol brand as it came with a better nosal for better coverage , again thin coats and many letting it dry between each coat , here I used 1.5 cans ! So takes a bit of time .
Leave it for a couple of hours , I had the car inside on a hot day with a heater under it .
After this is dry you start to flat it using 2000 , 2500 and 3000 wet and dry , doing this correctly is the secret .you really need to get it all down flat with no dimples at all in the finish . Once it all flatted it will look horrible with no shine at all , this is good as it's all at the same level , to bring the shine you are now compounding it . I used menenzerna power finish but any compound will work , I also used a DA polishing machine but by hand will also work . Allow a day start to finish and work indoors
Ray that damage happened on a very wet Galway run trying to stay with Steve , he is on rain sports I'm on ditch finders , stone sticking out on the road side .............I think you can guess the rest
That's a good contact Robert re the paint , I got paint locally before but the colour match was really bad

Lost weight!

20160611_205540.jpg

Car came with an alarm, but it wasn't working. On inspection, there were lots of cut wires (?!) all related to the alarm. Connected what I could find, but still no joy, so decided to get in and remove everything. I'm sure the weight saving will make a huge difference to fuel consumption ;- )
