Got my new battery from 4 wheel online. Then I replaced the headlight bulbs with osram nightbreakers.

Stripey has been off the road since November (and due to various reasons I haven't logged on here since Christmas). About to apply for NCT, so thought I'd better get things underway......

Took off inner liners, cleaned off all dust/muck from arches and started applying Waxoyl.

A few lumps of paint were peeling off the rear bumper - which did nothing for the overall appearance....
Spray 1.jpg

Sanded down, filler applied and 2 coats of primer
Spray 2.jpg

Three layers of top coat - to be wet sanded and lacquered
Spray 3.jpg

Front valance was badly scuffed - so same treatment there too.

Unofrtunately none of this will affect the outcome of the NCT - but they are little jobs that do no harm to the car :-)

Oh... forgot to say above....

Car has been siting in the garage since November (and started once a week, and left to run up to temperature for a while - just to keep things moving around etc). Removed front passenger wheel to clean/Waxoyl, and spotted this!

It wasn't like this when I parked it up. Both breaks (yes, in two places) are pretty fresh - nice and shiny, so I guess it must have "just happened" while sitting in the garage. Now this WILL make a difference to the NCT!!!!

That's shocking (pardon the pun) I've never heard of a spring just snapping under no strain.. that's mad.

Just got back around to doing a bit on my Roadster, have been busy buying a house so that has taken up most of my time of late but we are in and settled now so I got to do a bit lately, I got a DA polisher for Christmas so I gave the car a rattle with that, used menzerna polishes (very easy to use for a novice like me) to take out any swirls and scratches, then a coat of Soft99 fusso sealant followed by a coat of Soft99 King of Gloss, highly impressed with the results from products I used,

Decided to change the look of the instrument cluster, I had some wrinkle paint left over from when I did the cam cover so I took out my Jass stainless surround and painted it with the wrinkle paint ,then painted over with a matt black

Image

Image

Refitted my instrument trim rings and the plastic cover

Image

Then on to the dials, drew these up in autocad and made them up using Hammys on mx5nutz' method

Image

Test fitting to make sure everything is working, I glued stainless steel discs to the centres of the needles, simple but effective

And the finished job, gone back to a more oem look

Fitted a new mohari roof on Sunday. Pig of a job but somewhat rewarding, took about 8 hrs with the missues helping out. A lot more involving then i had inagined. went for black instead of the special edition blue and think it looks great. Got a baptasim of fire with the torrential rain yestday all day and all seem water tight. Bottom brackets & sacrews for the B Pillar were a total PITA. Good craic cutting off the most of old one first tho.

That top looks great, you'll have to spill the beans, where'd ya get it ? What cost? Was it on a frame ? Did it come with new seals ? Will it fit my mk1? Jealousy is a curse

The roof looks fantastic. I can only imagine what a PITA the whole thing was - but it looks well worth the effort. Well done!

hood was 295£, approx 350 euro deliveed, the recent demise of sterling helped. I had to beat them up a bit to get a good postage rate. Got for a E-bay seller called mx5-hood-shop in UK, Fit was excellet just the bottom rain seal rail didnt line up great. It didnt come with any seals but my own were perfectly reusable. Instruction provided were rubish tho.
found a good video online from maxada mania hoods, much better then most others. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BV-4oOvGi7U
I bough new tensioner too & these were around 15E delivered from ebay, old ones were long gone.

Thanks, I've added the eBay seller to my watch list along with a mig welder.
. the welder would be for rust repair which is probably more important than what would be a cosmetic change of roof
