Thank you! Unfortunately it's not a special edition. I think the rubber dash, like this one, came on later model Beetles. I love it (the history/heritage, the charm, the styling) - but just don't use it as it was intended to be used, hence the (possible) decision to sell it so that it can be enjoyed to the full by someone else (indeed, if anyone knows of someone who might be interested, pleas let them (and me) know!

And just to get this thread back on track..... I returned the seam sealer and got some stone chip instead. Then also decided, seeing as I'd changed the oil that I should replace the plugs too..... And for some reason decided to replace the wiper blades as well (seeing as there is a yellow weather warning for Leinster .... even tho the car rarely sees any rain!).

I think that stone chip stuff is the schultz that I mentioned earlier in the thread. That should do the trick nicely !

Hopefully - and thanks again to yourself and Pops for the advice. This stuff went on very easily, and coverage was good. I'll try report back at a later date to say if it lasted ot not.

very cool Beetle, I had one a while back, it had the rubber dash too but it was a 1995 Mexican built w/1.6 fuel injected engine. Great fun, would have one again.

Took it out of the garage, washed it & put it back. The spiders will have to start rebuilding their cobwebs.

1.6 and fuel injected.... niiiice. And yes, beetles are fun in a very basic, and very entertainiing, way.

Pops, looks like you've upset a whole colony there. Tis good to keep it clean .... will make your return to the road that bit sweeter!

Thanks but it might have been better left dirty

never thought this might happen, it can only be because I got distracted when the suds were on it and it must have dried into the paint.
And, just as bad if not worse, the brush I used left scratch marks behind. Lesson learned, use the sponge & chamois it dry.

Anyway, another time I’ll get at it with the compound & polish

Thats always a pain in the butt. With the ambient temperature we're having water will try off much quicker than normal - leaving those marks (which is always a pity after the effort one goes to when washing the car.

BTW, I never use a sponge - they are ripe for leaving micro scratches and swirls (which, of course, REALLY show up on black/dark coloured paint). I'd recommend a lamb's wool mitt, or nothing less than a microfiber wash mitt. Sponges tend to move any dirt they encounter around/over the surface.

Never even knew about lambs wool or microfiber wash mitt,I still remember the time I used to use the kitchen sweeping brush & a bucket of washing up liquid & water to wash the car of the day , I had thought the wash went ok but it now looks like the damage is because I didn’t rinse it quick enough , might be time to get up to date with new techniques and products. A visit to the halfords website for a browse maybe

I know Halfords do Meguiars products these days - but couldn't see on of these on their site (this is what I use):

And I recently got one of these for drying:

its taxed... and nct booked! Getting closer ;-)
Drove it round the block, bit of clicking/clanking/rattles from front suspension (dry joints maybe?), I'll get it up on stands and retighten eveything during the week.
Oh and the alternator belt is slipping badly... I see a cambelt/waterpump/belts/crank bolt/front seal/spark plug/air filter/etc change in the near future.

Will be good for you to get it back on the road but then there’ll be a never ending list of things needing to be looked at .
Out for the compulsory bit of exercise this evening and in the space of 2/3 minuets saw three ZV reg classics that didn’t appear to have any relation to each other, a big brown Citroen estate on Sean mulvoy road , fabulous fumes off it cos he was fairly gunning it up the hill, then a Rolls / Bentley and on the bridge going in the other direction was a convertible Mercedes with the roof down, jealously doesn’t get me anywhere I’m told
