Still working on mine. Brake discs removed and thrown in the bin. Calipers removed for servicing.
Cleaned off most surface rust and treating all parts that needed it.

Previous few weeks;
New spark plugs
Air filter
oil filter
engine oil
gearbox oil
diff oil
new HT leads
Seats and carpets removed

Loads more to do.

Good weather for classics (and especially convertibles).

Betcha can't wait, Steve - and sure, there's always something to do :-)

And your post reinforces what I just said.... always something to do!

That's a great list too - you're getting through all the essentials. I'm sure you can't wait to get it out on the road. You have the seats and carpets out - are you going to paint the floor? Sounds like I'll soon have to start looking for you on the local roads!!!

Thanks Graham

The list seems to get longer :D :D
The inside of the car has been treated with an anti rust agent.
Didn't need it but just preferred to do it just in case.
Water leak had rusted the petrol pump cover. Did a job on it and sprayed it as well.
Wheels are off and tyres binned, just need to prep them and paint them.

Still more to do.
But its all good and can't wait to get it finished.

ehhh... that would be this then... (excuse the surface rust + spider webs)

Luckily I'd a few old spare ones to choose from. :D

Feck!!!!! Wonder when that popped off???!!!!

As for the surface rust and webs, think how much lighter, and therefore faster, your car will be when you sand that rust off and clear away those webs :-)

Another step closer to getting safely back on the road!

I was checking out the whole turbo vs supercharging thing. I think for the road, supercharging is the way to go. Plus I love the whine from the R53 Mini that we have. So I reckon an M45 charger from one of those might be an interesting prospect that many have carried out. The other charger was an M62 from a Merc but, despite higher power gains, fitting might be trickier. It's a subject that requires a lot of reading by night me thinks. But yeah, I might be seriously tempted to go this route.

I think that might have been the bang when I moved it the other day lol I presume it worked its way out over time, the suspension was at an angle for an extended period.
Driving well now but the list of "todo"s is getting longer :)

I had a look at the Merc supercharger (I had it in a CLK at the time), I think the mini one might be an easier project alright. That said, if you want more power and more whine (the internal baffle can be removed) the Merc one is prob the way to go I reckon.

...but you know you really want a turbo tho right? :batman: :D

Steve,
The M62 from the Merc definitely has the potential foe more power than the Mini M45 item. Reading the older thread by Andrew on here, gave me food for thought and especially his reasons for s/c struck a chord. Have you fitted a turbo to yours ?

Interesting ! Was it a kit or did you put the components together yourself ? Was it a difficult project looking back ? 2003 was real early days !

Got around to fixing the damage I caused when washing the car
Suds or scum seemed to have buried their way into the paint

Lesson learnt, don’t leave suds on the car in the sunshine.
Stuff I used was simoniz shampoo & shine, pretty thick stuff but I thought maybe a cap full in the bucket of warm water should have been ok. Maybe if I used Graham’s method of a wash mitt I mightn’t have left it like I did , anyway , live and learn
