All this goes to prove that the best subject to get people posting is the colour and model preferrences of the members.... Another poll , anyone?? John
   Re: Mx5 Newbie
AFAIK it was only the European spec post 1993 cars that had less power the jap imports had the same power post1993. Welcome to the club.
Omg, Ive driven the Mk2 and the MkI, Im waiting on mazda to be brave enough to allow me to take one of their MkIII's for a spin. The MKI is a far superior car than the mark II on these grounds...
Handling Weight distribution BPH Power especially pre 94 Fun Looks Cheapness of body panels!! Look to generalise, people that own MKI's tend to be younger more agresive drivers, MkII owners tend to be older and rather comfort, safety and no damaging panels. I drive my MKI to the bone, ask anyone who has seen me on the Healy, I drive my MKI as if I can afford to replace it... Yes, shes faster, louder, noisier, older, rattles more but she goes like a demon... MkI is where the MkII came from any MKII driver that doesnt respect that shouldnt own one.. Withought the MkI there never would have been a second (safer yawn) version I have a jeep for safety, a mkI for thrill.... Fla ---I'm back----
Right, thats fighting talk that is Fla:P
I won't respond to the insults but can only give my opinion on the cars i have driven. When i was in the position to buy a MX5 (after dusting off my pension book, removing my slippers and putting out m'pipe ), i test drove a reasonable number of MkI and IIs both here and in the UK. I quite agree that the MkI is lighter, noisier, cheaper etc but it is not necessarily more fun to drive or faster. Yes i know the figures etc but to get the faster models (pre93) then the engines were so old they would blow up if you tried the 0-60 times. Actually the fastest one i tested was a 99 MkII import with quite a few mods. (lowered, racing suspension, wheel, brakes etc etc) but the ride and handling was appalling (relatively of course). Since this was going to be my everyday car as well, then a shitty ride aint no good. There are some very "colourful" importers here and I would strongly recommend caution if you use them. That doesnt mean they are all bad just have your wits about you. Which i guess is good advice for any car buying really. What really did it for me though was the looks. Again this is just a personal choice thing but the MkI looked ok until the lights were on then it just didn't float my boat. My actual favourite is the MkIII with its aggressive flared arches etc but unfortunately the bank wont stretch that far. So i ended up with a Mk2.5. yes i know there isnt a MkII without a MkI but they are just ugly Cool, really looking forward to sunday and we can do some more beatch-slapping. tata Olly (eile)
Sweet lamb of the holy baby Jesus ,, Olly. You really have me spuds boiled now begorrah.
Mk1 Ugly? UGLY? takes all sorts I suppose but I've always said I would like the upgraded comfort apparently offered by the Mk II, I've no problem with that, but they just don't look as good. How can flippy up lights not look better. You've sold out your inner 10 year old man Anyhoo, see you at slapfest. I'll be the one hiding... i mean standing behind Ashley.
There will be no hiding behind me. You can fight it out between yourselves.
I have a dream, where all mx5's are treated equally........ But if you call my 5 ugly and it hears you i won't be held responsible for its actions!!!! http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3099765 "When I make a key the on position and push the button, an engine works"
RIGHT, I'M CALLING MY TRAVEL AGENT AND ASKING THEM TO DELAY MY HOLS FOR 2 DAYS, I DON'T WANNA MISS THIS. JOHN

Don't kid yourself a jeep is not safe very easy to flip over. Have you looked up the NCAP rating
LOL - the midlands run is now slapfest! LOL
The only reason Mazda Stopped doing flip up lights is due to legislation - the mk2 and 3 would still have them if they could. imho, the mark 1 was and still is the most pretty of all marks - there's something about it.
C'mon, you cant be serious. Flippy up lights look better?? At least that has given me a good larf on a dull day. Lets face it, flippy up lights make your car look like Millhouse go on guys, you can admit it..."You bought the wrong car" Ollie, dont believe a word of the hype, they did not stop the flipup lights due to legislation, it was becos of the millhouse effect. urgghhh!!! Everybody was kungfu fighting...bring it on! Olly (eile)

Probably because we are so 'colourful' over here

Yup, no doubt you do have to adjust your driving style to allow for the higher centre of gravity. Adrian Hobbs, Euro NCAP's secretary general : "generally, larger, heavier cars still protect their occupants better than smaller and lighter ones" Fla must be comparing it to the '5 + his driving style
