No hassles Ash, had time on my hands today - went ahead and fitted them ;-)

and ok, beofre anyone says it, yes, my 5 does need a wash AGAIN!

So,these are the ones I bought - Chrome and €22 on ebay. When i got them, all the instructions were in German and for every other car than an MX5 - for opel calibras and vw's etc- but no MX5 - Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr :x .

I did a McGyver on this mod - and avoided any Tapping that had to be done. I found that when i went to tap the hole I drilled in the Hinge, the handle from my tapper was obstructed by the wing....see

- so, I marked and punched the holes to be drilled on the hinges both side - marked each hingle on the outer side 32mm back and 8mm down. As i said, i went all mcGyver and drilled the hole bigger (with the hinge in place as is) and got the nut in behind (not easy but with patience) and fasted up the ball fitting with a spanner. Nice!
Image
I then removed the nut from the wing (the one next to the existing hole in the wing which is just forward of the engine bay bulkhead).

Image

This hole is already tapped and the ball fitting screws directly into it. No hassles.

I then fitted the bonnet lifter.
Did the very same both sides. Took about 40mins all in all. I then removed the old bonnet prop bar.

Looks well and lifts the bonnet well.

'Fraid not - I thought almost all recent cars would have had these factory fitted, but the MK3 comes with the bog standard bonnet stay only.

I found a set on MX5parts - they are over £50, but the two reviews don't inspire confidence......

I have removed these from cars before because once they become a bit stiff they bend the hinges.

I've always suspected there were a few hinge benders on this site.
