Broken window cable

Postby robmx5 » Wed, 27 May 2009 6:54 +0000

My drivers side window has snapped - having only lubricated it a couple of months ago - window will not raise or lower - but motor appears to be making the requisite noises. Window broke whilst trying to lower it.

Are there 2 cables or just 1 - I have found one rusty broken end in the bottom of the door frame.

Are the cables easy to replace - does anyone have a link to a how to guide ? Or does one have to buy a whole new assembly ?

Cheers again

I've only done the Mk1 cables are the Mk2 the same?
If so there are 2 cables. You don't need instructions
when you take off the door card you will see what to do.
It's fairly simple job.

Thanks lads - ye looks like the entire mechanism has to be replaced on a MKII - as per the link (great detailed explanation) and also some advice from www.mx5parts.co.uk - just need to find a cheaper one than there €86 yoyos

Cheers, I'll let you know how I get on as I'm sure that this will come up again for all us MKII'ers
