Whistling roofbars

Postby robmx5 » Sun, 07 Jun 2009 3:56 +0000

Ok a topic that should possibly be in a "my other car is" section, but I have a loud whistling noise coming from my roofbars when fitted to my Peugeot, and travelling above 80kmph - anyone have a possible solution ? Really annoying when travelling on motorways - does prevent you getting done for speeding I suppose but pain in the *rse. Need the bars for my roofbox when going camping with family.

Cheers

Do you have plugs on the ends of the bars or are they just open? If so you basically get the same effect as plowing across the top of an empty beer bottle.

Ye Pete covers over the ends - can't figure this out - I've seen other cars fly past me with similiar bars - unless they have their stereos turned up very loud to drown out the whistling.

you could maybe try gaffer taping the joints one by one to see if that gets rid of the problem.

Yes was looking at the joins in the bars, which run along the underside of the bars - there is a gap in part of these - think I will try the gaffer tape as a starter - cheers
