Which brakes pads

Postby anniniwa » Thu, 16 Jul 2009 3:34 +0000

Hi there,

I know I spoke to someone before about brakes.. I definately need new back brake pads and prob front now too, can someone please advise on which ones to get and should I order from MX5 parts? There are red and green ones etc on MX5 and don't know which to get, could I buy standard ones locally?

Apologies for repeating myself on this but can't find the other thread I had seen on it previously.

Thanks
Ann

I like these myself :

Yes, any motor factors will have standard pads (they are the same as one of the Civic's and a Dihatsu charade ;-) ).

Thanks srigley,

I have sent them an email re: front and back pads...will post the reply costs etc. Alternatively I should ask for the standard ones for Civics or Charades then at a local motor factors ya?

Thanks a million

Ann,

The EBC brakes that Steve suggested are available in most good motor factors. Print out the picture on the site that Steve sent you and bring it with you and haggle the price. I did so and got them down from €70 to 50. Start with Halfords.

Thanks Tom, was that for a set of 4, front and back? I'll be into Halfords and a few others if need be. One question, on this site it says the pads are for a 5 up to a 1998, MX5 mine is a 99 will they still be ok?

Hi Ann,

The price I got was for font and back pads. Mine is a '00 and when I went in I just asked for pads for that year MX5. They all have a manual that they can look up to find the correct pads. Best advice, shop around first and play one shop and price against the other - even if you tell a little white lie. When I was looking and was told €70 I just told him that I could get them for 40. I disremembered to say that it was £'s and ommited to say that delivery, mx5 parts uk, was extra and the response was " I couldn't do as good as that but I'll give them to you for €50 - Ohhhhhhhhhh! all right I'll take them! And off I went a happy camper.

Good shoping.
