Center Brake Light

Postby fabfiveferg » Fri, 31 Jul 2009 8:55 +0000

Have my NCT this avo and have most of the obvious probs sorted. Having a bit of difficulty with the center/strip Brake light. It wasn't working at all so i replaced the bulb which was blown.

Now the light comes on when i turn the main lights on but braking has no effect on it. Any ideas what the issue might be. earthing maybe? Had a look last night but can't see anything obvious. My current plan is to tape up the light for the NCT and hope he lets me away with the other brake lightas working.

Anyone experienced this before or have any advice for tracing the problem.

Disconnect the wiring at the back of each rear light cluster and retest each time.
If disconnecting one of them fixes it, check the bulbs in that cluster. They might look ok but the filament could be shorting.

If your hassles persist, just disconnect the funker altogether as I don't think it needed on our cars and the age of them.
For instance, my rear brake light was rewired in the Uk for the MOT to be a rear fog lamp with a button on the dash and I left it that way as i like it so.
It's passed the NCT here that way perfect! :D
Best of luck with the national car joke, sorry Test.
