![]() Re: The Bug!My sister had one. early 70's. I clearly remember having to bail out of it once when it caught fire, the battery was located under the rear seat, if you had too much weight in the back seat the springs would short-out the terminals, the seat was stuffed with straw-like stuff...voila..instant inferno

![]() Re: The Bug!Yeah, they were making them in Mexico up until recently - hence the term 'Mexi' when it comes to Beetles. Think they had a four-door version too !
Best thing was, they was also still making the bay-window bus/van/pickup ! It's a small world after all. It's a small, small world

Yeah, altho' mine was exported to Germany and sold new via a supermarket chain "lotto" in 1995. Still the same dub dub LHD, Fuel injected, airbag, immobiliser and catalytic converter..
Saw new buses for sale 2 years ago in Brazil, not as cheap as I was expecting though.

![]() Re: The Bug!There is a gap behind the rear seats for sure.
Some cars may have had them covered up for speakers, but the gap was definitely there. It's a small world after all. It's a small, small world
