Oxygen sensor 1.8 mkI

Postby tiggerl82 » Mon, 12 Dec 2011 9:30 +0000

I think i need an oxygen sensor... I think this is the right name, but im not sure. Check the picture please.
I found only one on ebay but it called catalytic converter sensor. When i put oxygen sensor to search the parts look like the lambda sensor. I think this broken wire caused the fail on nct...
Thanks!

That sensor on the cat is just a heat sensor to tell you if the car is running to hot. If is different to the o2 sensor which Is also called a Lamda sensor. This is located in the down pipe from exhaust manifold. Your Lamda readings were fine on the test iirc so doubt it needs replacing however you effectively have a hole in your exhaust were the cat sensor should be so that hole does need to be sealed up.

yeah its a fuse thingy which melts or something if the cat gets too hot. Throws up a light and code methinks. You just need to block the hole. Itll run fine without it.

Just make up a plate the same size, drill 2 holes and cover it up with some exhaust paste if you cant find one.

And by the way I still reckon that unless they were done already new plugs air filter and maybe plug leads will sort you out. Try a bottle of additive in petrol as well. High co reading means the car is running slightly rich due to incomplete combustion.
