What did you do to your MX5 today ?

Just one of them things, only rear lights are allowed to be red. Tape em up for the next test and it will be fine or remove them for test. Co2 could be a simple service and get engine good and hot before test. What were other test results? Lamda and hc?

The car had just an oil pump change.... So new oil, new filters, etc.
Every other data is within limits.
The Co at 850 rpm is 0.05. the fail is above 0.50...
HC is 37ppm, above 0 ppm fail, but at the result it says N/A... (dont understand that) at 850 rpm

at 2800rpm: HC is 22ppm, fail above 200 ppm
at 2800rpm: lambda is 0.99, limit is between 0.97-1.03

so everything else is fine... the engine was warm, but had to wait 30 min before they took it in. He checked the emission at least for 10 minutes after that, so the engine had time to warm up again...

The na means that don't test it, your car an import? If so they dont have high idle test data to compare it to.
Did you change spark plugs and air filter? Check for vacuum leaks and check exhaust for leaks. Could also try a bottle of dipatiane (sp?) in tank. It's not a very high result and all other data seems fine so not a big issue I'd say.

I now have properly working headlights that actually go up and down as they should. Poor long suffering hubby removed left motor and dismantled it and greased up everything. Hurrah, now need to save a few euros to get the bonnet resprayed

As a matter of interest, when did the emissions regs change? What I am trying to ask is, older cars face less rigerous standards, what year do the older cars go up to before the stricter emissions standards come into force?

after fitting the coilovers on monday i brought the car over to a guy just off Amiens st to get the alignment done.
its very rare that somebody brings you under your own car and takes the time to explain what there doing and lets you inspect your own car while its in the air. had a good look under it with a torch looking for the usual nct type fail stuff, cv boots, steering rack gaitors ect and am pretty happy with it.

...it's more what my MX5 did to me...

Long time no post. Hello all.

Went for my NCT this am (yes, 9:25am Sunday, I know!) having had the car serviced a month ago & having checked it myself yesterday.

Test aborted due to leaking coolant hose (this one http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/upper-bottom-hose-silicone-mazda-p-561.html) spraying onto exhaust manifold. Am currently mulling whether to replace all the hoses or just this one + one heater hose which was on my list to change anyway.

Got a refund of the test fee cos the fella (very decent chap) had not done any of the tests before spotting it. Car out of action... and it's only 10:40am!

Happy new year all

Simon
No more Mk1, now driving an '08 Mk3. Still fun!

Hi Simon,
I replaced all the hoses on my car with their kit last year, there are just two that are tricky, the two heater hoses behind the head. Quick tip, cut the old hoses lengthways (carefully, the metal pipes are very soft) with a stanley blade to remove them. The new ones needed a little bit trimmed off the ends too so prob best to measure them up against the old ones before fitting. One last thing, rather than try and replace the original spring type clamps behind the head, I replaced with the screw on type.

Today i fitted my induction kit, mostly for its acoustics which are beefy and rather nice. removed the charcoal canister with the intention of re-locating the washer bottle to its side to free up space near the manifold. also sprayed the final coats of laquer on the diy skirts.
and finally took up the slack on the throttle cable, made quite a differance too
