2 days of great driving...... Yesterday the coast road from Kinsale to Union Hall..... Today down to my Mum in Wexford..... Had my top off all the ways........ Think the MX5 is drving's best kept secret, just have a smile on my face...... awesome

Glad you enjoyed the west cork roads today, you should have come out with us on new year's day, you would have had a ball. I am heading for the Glen of Aherlow in the morning so can't wait, hopefully it will stay dry. I only cleaned the car yesterday so I want it to stay reasonably clean for a few days at least.

Had a new slave cylinder fitted, fiddly enough job.The bleed nipple on the new one was bigger than the old, so the piece of tubing had to be adapted, that meant that a 1/2 hour job became a 1 hour job The nut on the fluid line was also a pain in the ass to open but we got it eventually
She's been sitting in the garden for nearly 3 months now without stirring, battery was flat but she started on the first turn after a jump-start
Now all I have to do is tax the car before giving her a good blast

took off the rocker cover to replace the gasket......all goin well untill i went to fit the new one and its slightly differant.
cleaned off the old one and cleaned the r/c itself and re fitted. not a big or a hard job but pain in the arse to have to do it twice.
might leave it till im painting the r/c.

nct this afternoon. intended to prepare over the weekend but the weather was terrible. started her up this morning and pulled her out of her cosy bed, let the wind blow the dust off her, put duck tape over the side markers and wiped the windscreen and other windows. i then drove a mile to the nct centre and after 20 mins was presented with a yellow slip.... the only downside is it's only for a year. roll on spring.

If they're not the required colour then the NCT will fail them, but if they're covered then they can't fail them...a loophole in the law!!!!

markers on mine are also lit and it saves having to disconnect them or remove the bulbs

Thanks for the tip guys, never knew orange side lights were a failure, that must be why people fit clear lens to their cars? Mine is stored for the winter and will need nct in spring. There is a crack in front (clear) sidelight, is that a fail?

Orange sides are ok it's red ones at the rear of jap imports that are an issue. Once the front side light is working and not Likely to cause injury then it should be ok.

Took off the hardtop, then the softtop yesterday. Rainrail broke, as well as several points of the top. Brittle does not cover it, it was almost in bits already. Frame is fine. Found some rust on the cover over the fueltank. Took it off, brushed and Hammerite-antirustfixed it. Grounded the cover today, and in the meantime running without the cover and a bare metal shelf behind the seats. Very noisy until the carpet with the soundproofing comes back on. Waiting for grounding to get second layer before putting it back on.

Well, as it was such a lovely day today I decided to forego the tax thing and fired up the car for a bit of a test of the above mentioned slave cylinder, really enjoyed an hour or so of back roads, tail sliding and watching out for the boys in blue.. the car however badly needs some tlc in the cleaning department after lying up for the winter..roll on the summer!!

Well went to dunnes in the mazda........ oh and got the map of Brittany out and kind of got a route round that little bit of France sorted in my head...... Ferry price sorted and loads on trip advisor...... Yeh me feels a road trip coming on....... oh watched the rugby.... bolix....

gave it a good wash and took off the hard top, only the second time ive done so since purchase. then cleaned out the little drains behind the seats that the soft top runs into and gave it a wash......roll on the summer.....have to sort out the sounds though, not enough base in the car for the downtempo stuff im listenin to lately

Started taking off the turbo manifold, its going in for a refurb. That middle bolt in between the runners is going to be fun.
