What did you do to your MX5 today ?

Postby mx5ash » Mon, 20 May 2013 10:21 +0000

And today I broke the car again. Doh
Drivers side drive shaft is just spinning in inner cv joint. Anyone heard off this before?
That's 2 diffs and a half shaft the cars got though. Not like I'm putting out huge power in a 1.6 auto!!

That makes me feel a little better and it's not just me! Have a spare in the shed so not a huge issue, just a pain having to tow car home. Will have a look on Friday and see what's what.

can happen if you dont replace the c-clips.

Took this out today and the c clip was still in place but the grease in the cv joint was just destroyed. Cv boot seems in good condition with no noticeable splits or tears.

The inner race was spinning fairly freely on the splines of shaft.

New one In now and all is good again.

How much?? I made my own up from schd 40 fittings(stainless) from Mooneys in Killybegs. 40euro for the bits and a shit load of work but its bespoke.
