Genuinely my friends do not understand a car without central locking or the concept of how to lock the door on my NA. I bought a central locking kit from MX5 parts and attempted to install it over the weekend. The kit itself has very poor instructions and I have found more challenges than easy wins.

The biggest problem when I fix something is that I find two more things to fix and usually break some things on the way. The plastic on top of the interior door panels was very brittle and both might be beyond repair.

Went to fit the silenced decat I got off Brian only to find out I measured mine incorrectly while squeezing under the car in the driveway.
Turns out mine is the 370 mm and not the 440 mm that I thought it was.
Anyone selling a 370 mm silenced decat?
I can trade for a 440 mm.

Removed the throttle-body and IAC thing for a good cleaning. Car has had an idle issue for a while, mostly sorted now !

Did a big-brake conversion - renovated the calipers off my old 1.8 with new seals, etc and a good powder-coating, put new discs on, new Mintex pads and fresh brake fluid. The difference is amazing, it's a good upgrade to do on a 1.6.

Mostly sorted? I ask because I have an idle issue.

Yeah, idle used to fluctuate all over the place, and would sit at 2K rpm, then die down very slowly to 1K. A bit random.
Now, it's stable, but I need to adjust the idle screw to get it perfect as it dips when the lights are on, and so on.

Carb cleaner is what I used, it's strong stuff - melts away varnish etc

Thanks for the reply did you need to take it apart to clean it as I have seen some posts about just opening the front and spraying inside.

It works for some people, Yolo, but I don't know how. Having taken the thing apart, there are lots of little channels and airways, that I can't imagine how the carb cleaner would get into the crevices when the engine is running.

You could try it, nothing to lose.

Also inject some carb cleaner down the idle-adjustment screw on the top of the throttle-body. It is designed to allow a metered amount of air in, so might be gummed up with oil and varnish. I have a feeling that that was what my main problem was.

Replaced the manky, leaky rubber gearstick gaskets with this fancy silicon version "for race cars" from Doctor MX5 on Ebay. Have had it in the car for a year now, and it's holding up fine. I also added a bit of heatshield material from my old turbo car
