Oh yeah, couple of things done to the CE car in April. The car is headed back to Hilly, ironically enough !

Removed the black roof, put the red roof back on

New Wesco battery in place of the awful wet-cell. Why do people keep putting wet-cells in these cars ?
Image

Converted the wipers to these new-style springy things, it makes a nice change
Image

Removed the (utterly useless) two-piece visors and put these one-piece versions on
Image

Removed the old alarm (wires were spliced and wrapped very badly, I hope it wasn't something done by a professional fitter) and a brand-new, more up-to-date system installed. Wires cut-to-size, soldered, heatshrinked and made tidy. Not going to show it in a public forum !

Comes with a pager and an adjustable shock sensor

It's a small world after all. It's a small, small world

Thanks for the invites back guys. Hell or high water I am getting a five shortly. I was looking at mine today and though the paint work is still great and is unique I fear there's too much to do underneath. So I've decided to get another and use the old one as a donor where needs be. I'm looking at a five on adverts at the moment. It'll need a bit of work but I think it's worth a gamble. One I have good audio and she goes sideways I'll be happy!!

I'm so envious ye're cars are looking great guys. I'll be back pimping mine before long but I'll stick to stock set up for a while. So all going well I might have a five again before the end of the month.

Frank that car of yours is looking sweet. I see you were selling a few bits, have you still got the front indicators?

I also need advice on alloy wheel reconditioning. Anyone use a company in Ireland? Mine could. Do with a freshen up after being parked for so long.

Good man Fla, hope you get sorted soon. It will be good to have you back. You do realise there is a run coming up next month, for the 25th Anniversary run on 5th May. Would you be sorted by then.??
Get cracking on then mate, we're all itching to get out again.
Catch up again soon.

Regards John.

good stuff!
So, is all the body good on your old one?
It would be worth giving autocheck (Robert) a ring and discussing options. He might have something in stock to fit your needs.

I didn't realise he did complete cars too. I'll find him on here and drop him a note. As I say the one I'm looking at online is handy money which means I can start modding a little bit sooner. Though I'd love a better car I can't justify 3k right now. Baby steps an all that.

The body on mine is good and she is the v spec but simple things like hinges on the boot and trunk are bad and the cabling where the ecu is is all corroded. I think I might get a basic spec car in silver and give her the tan v spec interior. Make one nice car out of both.

Today I pulled my five into the shed. She's been outside uncovered for over five years. Considering that she's not looking too bad?! I haven't told her that she is coming inside to become a donor car. Looking forward to stripping two cars to make one good one.

I will be posting many questions!

Hello fla , the car looks very good in the pictures,
You say the car is bad underneath if the body work is not rotten all the other bits ie suspension brakes subframes can be replaced easily and cheaply .Before you do anything consider what you have might be as good as the car you buy or better .
I really would give Robert a call, he is very easy to deal with and very good and honest with his advice .
The very best of luck with it

Hi Brian,

In fairness she's very clean but as she's parked up so long and I really do drive like I'm on fire I just don't know would I trust her. I called Robert yesterday, had a good chat with him. I think I'd need too much to make this right but we'll see what's out there. Thanks for the info though.

So took the interior apart and installed a TR Lane GPV :

Lots of patience needed for installing this, its not easy.

I'm also considering a GPV, I'm just concerned about being able to operate the soft top easily though, and I guess pulling the roof up needs to be done from outside?

Or lift the roof as far as possible while moving then hit the brakes just enough to make it light enough to close it over. Works best at 10 mph but dont have a style bar and so cant comfirm it will work for you

Sitting in the driver's seat you can reach back over your shoulder with left hand and lift about halfway, then grab with right hand on other side of the bar and pull over. Same as without a bar I guess.

It's a great fitting bar, sits back far enough from your head, uses spreader plates + horizonal and vertical bolts.
Be sure and pick up a right angle drill attachment like this, maybe some stubby drill bits before you start as some of the bolt holes are impossible to reach without.
You'll also need a large bag of curses + frustration.

99% when you are putting the roof up you are idle..How hard is to get out of the car and do it hassle free.. Btw where can you source one that isn't 300-400+?

Thanks for clearing that Steve, I'll have a look at your MX5 at the run in May..
Deivis: As you've seen my car is quite low and it's hard to get in and out with dignity, and i quite like the roof to be easy to operate at a traffic light
