Improved listening to choons in the car by adding sets of speakers to replace what was there.

Then same again on the other side.

Then went for a spin to see if they made any difference...... and I think they did!

Flushed the engine, added Slik 50 and fresh 10w40 ..... now hoping it doesn't start to leak!

I haven't done anything to mine in a while other than a recent clean and topped up the p/s fluid which cured a small grating noise....oh yeah, and 3 months tax 8)

Thank you! I just wish it was bigger - it's a bit of a squeeze when trying to work on the car (such a first world problem!!!).

And yes - Slik 50 is a real blast from the past. I used to put it in any car i had when I was younger. I went to get the engine flush (something I've never used before) and saw it and thought ' might as well give that a go too).

Well the clean has certainly worked - it's looking great. Was the grinding noise an easy fix?

The grinding noise was just the car letting me know that the power steering fluid was low ! I topped it up to the full mark and it's been fine ever since.
One thing I have noticed since last year is that mohair roofs need more regular TLC. The old vinyl roof needed just a clean when washing the rest of the car but mohair are more prone to the green algae. So recently, for the second time this year, I hoovered the roof, washed it with Milton sterilizer, washed again in baby bath, rinsed and then applied Fabsil protector. It looks great after that !
I think this has been my 3rd MX-5. It's been with me since around 2010/11.....I think ?!

And do you think you'll be keeping it for another 8 years? Steve summed it up well!

And yes re. the mohair roof - I've spotted a line of the green stuff creeping up at the rear of the roof which is a job for this weekend, but I think it's worth the effort.

Believe it or not, I had thoughts of selling up this year and moving onto something like an air-cooled Beetle (I previously was into German cars - Mk2 GTi's, Corrado, BMW 325i E30 etc). But I've had the MX-5 for so long now that I would find it hard to let it go and I've built up the car to where I want it really....well, maybe a supercharger ! I've had MX-5's since 2007 so that quite a while (for me!). But who knows.....

The good thing about cleaning the mohair in detail means that it tends to look black & new afterwards.

I can imagine it would be hard to part with. And for a brief second there I thought I might have a potential buyer......... I'm about to advertise my 1974 Beetle!!!

Haha, that's gas...you have a Beetle ?!!! Similar interests and all that ! How did you find your time with Beetle ownership ?
We have always been a VW family and a visit to the VW factory museum last May reminded me of my love for all things VW. Luckily, I get my VW fix from my '04 camper these days !

Yes, I'm a big VW/VAG fan. I've really enjoyed the Beetle - but cars were designed to be driven, and I just don't drive it enough. I'm the third owner, and have had it since 2010, and since then have put just over 10000 miles on it (it's now at almost 80000 miles). It's a 1300 twin port, and i have replaced the floors and heater channels, had it resprayed etc. It's s different kind of driving experience.... it eventually gets to 50mph, and that's where I keep it at. I actually hoping to go to Wolfsburg in the next year or two, to visit the museum.

I realise this is a bit off topic, but seeing as we're talking about it - here he is

Wow ! That looks fantastic ! And those EMPI wheels look fantastic on it. Am I right in saying that the rubber surround on the dash came on special editions in the '70's ?
All credit to you - it looks mint !!! Really impressive.
