Remove hardened rubber sealerI'm replacing the softop but have ran into a problem, the previous top was sealed directly to the beltline moulding with some sort of rubber sealer which has bonded to it, I managed to get the vinyl away from the moulding ok but trying to get the sealer off the moulding is almost impossible, it's like rubber bonded to rubber, anyone got an idea how to dissolve the sealer? I've tried thinners and wd40 without much success Sent from my ELE-L09 using Tapatalk

Re: Remove hardened rubber sealerHi Steve, I tried a heat gun on it with no success, it just softened everything so I didn't try too long incase it ruined the moulding Sent from my ELE-L09 using Tapatalk
Re: Remove hardened rubber sealerHmmm.... Def needs a solvent of some sort then I'd say Sent from my Redmi Note 5 using Tapatalk
Re: Remove hardened rubber sealerI've left some of it soaking in white spirit now, I'll see if I can find some acetone or something similar tomorrow, nothing is ever straightforward on old cars Sent from my ELE-L09 using Tapatalk
Re: Remove hardened rubber sealerPicked as much of the sealer as I could, what a pain in the,,, fingers, anyway I'll refit it as it is now, if the top doesn't fit properly or leaks then I'll have to get a new moulding. Cleaned up the metal rails and gave them a coat of hammerite, it's a race now between the flowers growing and the paint drying Sent from my ELE-L09 using Tapatalk

Re: Remove hardened rubber sealerAll done now, new second hand mk2.5 frame & mohair top fitted, thankfully everything went back reasonably easy and no leaks, it's so much easier to open and close but now I have to give it a good clean Sent from my ELE-L09 using Tapatalk

Re: Remove hardened rubber sealerThanks Steve, due to being out of work for the next few weeks I should be able to do all the jobs that I've been putting off, underbody part of the nct is on Sunday so I'll start checking it for that and go from there
