Lockdown boredom relief

Postby Pops » Sat, 16 May 2020 1:47 +0000

After spending time doing other things viewtopic.php?f=20&t=8884#p68973
it was time to see what I could do to the mx5 without needing to get any supplies as there's nowhere open.
First to be tackled was the air filter, it needed a heat shield, lots of searching the shed for suitable piece of metal with no success but the kitchen held the answer in the form of a deep dish baking tray

Will have to wait another few weeks to see if it makes any difference, must be of some help though as the engine bay gets very hot

So, next thing bothering me is the condition of the wheels, I did paint them a couple of years ago but the chrome lips have corroded under the lacquer.
So, car up on stands and thankfully the lsd works and I was able to run the car in 3rd gear and place each wheel in turn on the rear hub and sand down the lips while the wheel spins, they were so bad that I had to start with 40 grit sand paper and work down to fine padImageImageImageImageImage
Polishing kit for the final finish
Pic where the weights go on each wheel
